Gemini does not recommend the use of silicone as an adhesive aid. - Gemini does not supply "tamper-proof" hardware. - For uneven surfaces, tape the mounting pattern of the hole locations to a piece of cardboard or foam core before drilling the holes for the screws. --- --- ### **Surface Mounting** --- ---   #### **Blind Stud Mount**[![BlindMount](https://hub.geminimade.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Plaques/BlindMount.jpg?width=111&height=188&name=BlindMount.jpg)](https://hub.geminimade.com/hubfs/Plaques/BlindMount.jpg?hsLang=en)  Available on all plaques with depths 1/4" or more. Back of plaque is drilled and tapped to receive threaded studs, thus hiding the hardware entirely after installation. Studs are pressed into pre-drilled wall holes and secured with adhesive applied into the holes as well as on the backside of the plaque. All plaques use stainless steel studs. Nuts and washers are available upon request. - **Sizing** - Stud size and quantity used is determined by size and depth of plaque. - Stud sizes are #10-24, 1/4"-20, and 3/8"-16 (first number reflects stud diameter and second number reflects thread count per inch) - #10-24 and 1/4"-20 are used on all plaques while 3/8"-16 is for Cast plaques only. - 3" length studs are standard for Precision Tooled and Etched plaques. - Cast plaques utilize 2", 3", and 4" standard length studs depending on size of plaque. - Other lengths are available upon request. Gemini will not cut down studs to custom lengths. - **Placement** - Standard procedure is for our production team to determine placement and quantity of studs depending on shape, size, depth, and material. - Stud alignment for brick or block mortar available upon request. - Custom placement is possible if Gemini is provided dimensions or an art file showing the placement. **NOTE:** For stucco wall installations, we recommend including 1/4" (minimum) standoffs. Minerals or chemicals in various stucco walls will react with the plaque material and coatings and cause failure if there is a direct (flush) installation. This is done similar to how blind mounts work as the screws hold the plaque in place while construction adhesive on the backside of the plaque cures. Unlike studs, screws will be visible on the face of the plaque. To help hide them from view, the screw heads are painted the same background color of the plaque.    - **Applications** - Gemini uses Phillips style screw head for all screws. - Machine screws can be combined with masonry shields for greater stability in solid wall installations. Requires 3" long screws. - Machine screws can be combined with toggle wings for hollow wall installations. Requires 3" long screws. - All screws are available with flat head (countersunk) and round head (non countersunk) styles. Round head is necessary for any plaque with a depth less than 1/4", shallower depths cannot be countersunk. - Machine screws can be combined with nuts and washers for custom installations. - Rosettes can be used to hide the screw head. A masonry shield consists of a sleeve and expander cone. With a hammer, lightly tap the shield/anchor cone side first into a predrilled hole just large enough for the shield to fit into. As screws are tightened, the expander cone is pulled into the sleeve which expands against the masonry and secures the plaque. - **Applications** - All screws are available with flat head (countersunk) and round head (non countersunk) styles. Round head is necessary for any plaque with a depth less than 1/4", shallower depths cannot be countersunk. - Rosettes can be used to hide the screw head. The toggle wing is given a few turns on the end of the screw, folded down, and then slipped through a predrilled hole in the wall slightly larger than the toggle wing. Once on the other side of a hollow wall, the toggle will spring open. Tightening the machine screw will pull the toggle wing against the backside of the wall and secure the plaque in place.   - **Applications** - All screws are available with flat head (countersunk) and round head (non countersunk) styles. Round head is necessary for any plaque with a depth less than 1/4", shallower depths cannot be countersunk. - Rosettes can be used to hide the screw head. Bosses are required as the studs cannot be welded directly to the backs. The boss has a standoff of 1/2", but holes in wall can be oversized for a flush installation. Similar to standard studs, a construction grade adhesive is recommended to be applied in the stud holes as well as the backside of the plaque. - **Applications** - Available for Etched and Precision Tooled plaques only. - Nuts and washers available upon request. - **Sizing** - - #10-24 and 1/4"-20 studs available - **Placement** - Hand placed and welded. They are most often specified on the order if you do not need Gemini to supply the hardware (ex: different screw head such as torx is being supplied by installer). Otherwise, Gemini will default to the numbering system used in the charts above appropriate to the size of the plaque. - **Sizing** - A custom diameter cut-thru hole may be requested for Precision Tooled or Etched plaques. Cast plaques cannot have custom diameter cut-thru holes. - Countersunk thru holes are not available due to possible variations in non-Gemini provided hardware. Tape availability depends on sizing, material, thickness & weight limits. Please inquire with  a Gemini representative if tape can be recommended for your plaque.   - **Applications** - Exterior use is not available for Gemini's provided tape mounting. - Wall/Install Surface must be clean, flat, smooth and free of dust & debris. - Cannot be used on non-flat, non-smooth surfaces. - Not recommended for assembly of layers or installing on glass. - Cannot be used for install onto floors, tile, wood, etc. - Average room temperature (70-degrees) is recommended for bonding. Used in exterior applications to be buried in the ground or cemented into place.  - **Applications** - For a higher quality finished back, a Precision (or Etched) plaque would be a better choice than Cast. - Plaques with Post type-F will have finished backs. If Cast is chosen, the backs will be painted, but may show variation when compared to the front of the plaque. - Plaques with Post type-F can be displayed at either a 90-degree or a 45-degree angle. - Post and bracket are painted black. Other colors not available.  - **Sizing** - Available depths for plaques with post mount are 1/4" – 3/8" - Minimum plaque size for post mount is 4"w x 6"h due to bracket size. - Maximum plaque size for post mount is 900 sq inches due to wind load. - Sizes of posts used are 1", 1.5", and 2" and is determined based on size of plaque. Post size is directly associated with plaque size and cannot be altered due to size of the bracket. Plaques over 576 sq. inches and up to 900 sq. inches, or with a single dimension 24" or over, will require a double post installation. - Post lengths are 6ft and 8ft. Gemini can cut the post to custom length if requested for an additional fee, consult your sales representative. - **Placement** - Posts should be buried at least 2ft into the ground with cement. Consult local frost line codes for necessary depth. - When installing the post, make sure the orientation of the angled top on the post is correct for the angle choice of the plaque, and the direction the plaque needs to be viewed after installation. Used in exterior applications to be buried in the ground or cemented into place.      - **Applications** - For a higher quality finished back, a Precision (or Etched) plaque would be a better choice than Cast. - Stake is bent at the top for an approximate 45-degree angle - Holes are located on the stake to be installed to matching drilled & tapped holes on the backside of a plaque. - There are notches at the bottom of the stake to help grip into the ground during install.  - Stakes are aluminum construction and are painted black. Other colors not available. - **Sizing** - Available depths for plaques with stake mount are 1/4" – 5/16". - Available for plaque heights from 4" – 8". - Maximum width for a single stake is 12". Maximum width for a double stake is 20". - Stakes are available in 24", 36", and 48" lengths. - **Placement** - Stakes should be buried at least 1ft into the ground. For double sided Cast plaques, with or without detail on the backside. The backs must be enclosed. Used in exterior applications to be buried in the ground and cemented in place. - **Applications** - Cast rectangular plaques only. No custom shapes. - - Posts and rain caps are standard painted black but can be painted other colors upon request. - Includes (qty 2) posts, (qty 2) rain caps, stainless spacers, studs, locking nuts, and hole plugs. - If text on one side only, we will still produce a second plaque welded on the back for a finished look. An unfinished back would reveal internal mounting hardware and rough sand cast finish, which is not recommended. - **Sizing** - Overall depth of double sided plaque can be 2" – 4".  - Suggested plaque sizing for side post mount starts at 900 sq inches with a maximum of 24 sq. feet for bronze and 40 sq. feet for aluminum. Height cannot exceed 60" in order to allow for enough burial depth of the posts and clearance of the plaque from the ground. - Sizes of posts used are 2", 3", and 4" and is determined based on size of plaque. Post size is directly associated with plaque size and cannot be altered due to wind load and weight of plaque. - Post length is 8ft. Used in exterior applications to be buried in the ground and cemented in place. - **Applications** - Custom shaped plaques OK as long as the shape is castable and will line up with the stud locations pre-drilled in the posts which is determined by the size of the plaque. - Hollow backed plaques will have a rough sand appearance due to casting process. - Gemini can paint the backside or leave it unpainted. Due to porous nature of castings, painted hollow backs will show imperfections and will likely appear different in color than the face side of plaque. - Posts and rain caps are standard painted black but can be painted other colors upon request. - Includes (qty 2) posts, (qty 2) rain caps, stainless spacers, studs, locking nuts, and hole plugs. - **Sizing** - Plaque depth will range from 1/2" – 2" depending on size of plaque. - Suggested plaque sizing for back post mount starts at 900 sq inches with a maximum of 24 sq. feet for bronze and 40 sq. feet for aluminum. It is cast together with the plaque for a freestanding mounting option for plaques up to 900 sq. inches. Post cap is meant for single or double sided Cast plaques. Used in exterior applications to be buried in the ground and cemented in place.   - **Applications** - Custom shaped plaques are OK as long as the shape is castable and bottom of plaque is straight and flat. - Blade and plaque depth is approximately 1/2". Single sided plaques will have a hollow back. Cap diameter is greater than the blade. - The backside of a single sided Cast plaque with post cap mount is painted the same color as the background on the front of the plaque. Due to porous nature of castings, painted hollow backs will show imperfections and will likely appear different in color than the face side of plaque. - There are three styles of blades available: Angled, Ogee, and Radius.  - - Plaque, blade, and post cap are all cast as one piece. Blade and post cap are painted the background color of the plaque. - Round Schedule 40 pipe is painted black, left as galvanized steel, or painted the same color as the blade. - **Sizing** - Maximum size of 900 sq. inches and cannot exceed 36" for any one dimension. Common application is a non-permanent install into the ground.     - **Applications** - Round rod mount is available in Cast plaques only. - Aluminum rod is not painted. - Backside of plaque is painted same as return color. - **Sizing** - Rod is available in 24" length and is 3/8" diameter. - Rod has a 45 degree bend. - Round rod mount can support a bronze plaque up to 8"w x 8"h or an aluminum plaque up to 10"w x 8"h. Minimum plaque height of 4" required. - **Placement** - Rods can either be pushed into the ground or cemented to allow for a permanent installation. Generally, 1 foot minimum is recommended for install into ground for stability. [Back to top](https://hub.geminimade.com/knowledge/what-hardware-options-are-there-for-plaques#start) --- --- ### **Additional Options** --- --- #### **[![loop mount](https://hub.geminimade.com/hs-fs/hubfs/loop%20mount.png?width=180&height=101&name=loop%20mount.png)](https://hub.geminimade.com/hubfs/loop%20mount.png?hsLang=en)** #### **Loop Mount** Loop Mounts can be added to single-sided or double-sided Precision Tooled plaques to allow for the sign to hang using customer provided sign chain or other hanging hardware. - **Applications** - Loops are added to customer artwork by Gemini or can be supplied with the original vector art. - Loops are made part of plaque and are generally the same width as the outer border. - A flat raised border is required, no bevels. - **Sizing** - The plaque will be specified at its regular plaque size and priced according to the addition height created by adding the loops. - Loop ring should be at least .125" thick. - Typical loops extend 1" above the plaque and are 1.5" wide. - Cut out hole is typically 1" wide by 0.75" high. The slot is made to fit over #10 flat head screws that have been installed on the wall. Customer can use this temporary install method for an easily removable plaque. - **Applications** - Can be applied to precision tooled plaques with 5/16" depth only. - Toggle wings not possible as screws are not fully screwed into wall. - **Sizing** - Minimum size is 4"w x 2"h with a maximum size at 18"w x 12"h - 3" long #10 flat head screws only. - Screws should stand off from wall 0.125". (ex: to stretch across drywall to anchor the clips onto the wall studs) - **Applications** - Available only for precision tooled or etched plaques. - Not available on cast plaques. - 2 sets of screws per clip are sent. 1 short set for attaching clip to plaque and 1 longer set for the install of the clip to the wall. - 2 types of Z-clips are used  - Aluminum clips for aluminum plaques.  - Stainless steel clips for bronze, brass, and stainless steel plaques. - **Sizing** - For plaques under 10" wide, use 1 set of z-clips. - For plaques over 10" wide, use 2 sets of z-clips. Such a project may require a new base plaque, along with a number of nameplates to be affixed to the surface with screws. Often times, a nameplate or similar style plaque will need to be ordered to attach to an existing plaque already installed. Such date or nameplates can be ordered with Gemini provided hardware or made with thru holes using the machine screw sizing system (typically #4 or #6 sized holes are used). - **Applications** - Perpetual Plaques (date/nameplates) - Available for Precision Tooled and Cast plaques base plaques. Nameplate plaques may be etched. - Depth of base plaque must be at least 1/4" to allow for tapped screw holes on face of plaque. - Materials of base plaque and nameplates must match. If adding etched plaques to an aluminum base plaque, etched plaques will need to be stainless steel. - Assembly fee applies for drilling and tapping holes in base plaque. - Spaces on base plaque that do not have a nameplate yet may be left open (with the screws in the holes) or have a temporary blank act as a placeholder (charges apply). - - Bas Relief - Bas Reliefs are affixed to either Cast or Precision tooled plaques. - Minimum base plaque depth of 1/4" required. - Bas reliefs are secured using countersunk screws from the backside of the plaque. Mounting is not visible. - Larger plaques or flat cut metal assembled pieces are also affixed using countersunk screws on the backside of the plaque. - **Sizing** - Date/Nameplates with raised text require at least 1/4" thick material for countersunk screws. Thinner depths will require the use of round head screws. - Date/Nameplates with recessed text require at least 1/8" thick material for countersunk screws.  - Cast and tooled mixing? - **If making date/nameplate for base plaque made by Gemini** - Previous order number required. - Finish and material cannot change. - If order number not known, consult our custom solutions team to best approximate finish, material, and specifications. Photo of existing plaque will be helpful. - If artwork was originally provided, new artwork for the date/nameplate also will be required for matching. - If new artwork not possible, consult our custom solutions team to best approximate font used on base plaque or previous date/nameplates. -
