Project Checklist
What should I consider during a project design?
When starting your project, consider the following:
- Environment: Is the sign going to be indoors or outdoors? UV exposure and weather directly relate to material choice
- Readability, visibility, placement, obstacles, and traffic patterns: This relates to size and design parameters
- Materials and sizes: Such as thickness, stroke width, production requirements, availability, and fabrication needs
- Finishes and colors: Natural finishes, paint, anodization, performance requirements, and other visual effects
- Local ordinances, federal codes, and sign regulations, including ADA requirements
- Engineering and technical requirements, including site requirements
- Aesthetics, font selection, logos, graphics, and brand style guidelines
- Contrast and color interaction and the sign’s relationship with its surroundings
- Light sources, brightness, and electrical requirements and codes
- Project budget and schedule
