Etched Portrait on Metal

Etched portraits utilizes a halftone dot pattern made from a 50-line screen. They have visible dot patterns and are black or dark oxide paint-filled to contrast the brushed background finish. Portraits will resemble newspaper photographs. Halftone etchings are available in stainless steel, bronze, and brass. They can be applied as an insert on Precision Tooled or Cast plaques or alongside other etched artwork on an Etched plaque.

UV Colorlast Print

Our high-resolution printers render UV-cured, non-elastic inks at 1200 dpi in full color. We print directly on the surface of a Precision Tooled or Etched plaque or produce as a metal insert affixed to a Cast plaque.

• The price of the insert or direct print does not include the cost of the plaque. Available up to 10 inches. For larger Colorlast portraits, please submit your photo file and requested size for review and special pricing. 

• UV Colorlast carries a lifetime warranty for indoor installations and 7 year warranty for non-harsh exterior installations.

Ceramic Inserts - Oval and Rectangular

Ceramic inserts are full color kiln-fired prints on a ceramic coated steel core. Available for Precision Tooled or Cast plaques.

• This insert is warrantied for interior and exterior installations.

• The price of the insert does not include the cost of the plaque.

Bas Relief

Your supplied photo is interpreted by an artist and sculpted by hand. Our approval process on these orders first involves approving the plaque as a whole. First, verify the composition of the text, border, graphics, and the size and placement of the supplied photo. Afterwards, a second proof of the hand-sculpted bas relief will be sent for approval which can take up to three weeks. Revisions at this stage are allowed but may incur a charge.

• Bronze reliefs are finished with our dark oxide paint and hand highlighted. Aluminum reliefs are finished the same but with our black paint.
• The relief is mechanically attached from the backside of the plaque with countersunk screws.
• The price shown in the bas relief pricing grid does not include the cost of the plaque.
• The standard overall height required is 4 – 24 inches. The finished depth is 3/4 inch – 1 inch.
• Flash bronze aluminum finish is not available. 

PhotoRelief

Photoreliefs are photos 3D-cast into a plaque without the use of an insert. The grayscale values in a photo are used to give it a slight range in depths resulting in high points and low points. After paint is applied, they are hand finished or "highlighted" to bring out a shaded, gradient-like appearance. Text on the plaque can be separate from the photo similar to any other plaque with a portrait option, or combined within a photo collage.

• Available up to 36 inches by 24 inches. Oversized pricing may be available.
• High-resolution supplied photos are strongly recommended.
• Text inside a photo collage will require taller letters and thicker than usual strokes compared to typical casting requirements.
• Finish Limitations:
  • Bronze PhotoReliefs use dark oxide paint and aluminum PhotoReliefs use black paint. Other paint colors may work but are not recommended.

• • Flash bronze aluminum finish is not available.
  • Background texture is limited to sand and surface finish is limited to random orbital.
  • Matte clearcoat is recommended.

Flat Relief

Flat relief is an economic alternative to bas relief. The supplied photo is hand drawn in a vector rendering similar to text or any other graphic. And just like vector text and graphics, the relief is made part of the plaque without the use of an insert. Detail is determined by the size and type of plaque and the allowed space for the portrait. They are therefore recommended for Precision Tooled or Etched plaques.

Sculpted Relief

Sculpted Reliefs are similar to Bas Reliefs except they are made from non-portrait graphics or photos. All bronze sculpted plaques have a hand rubbed dark oxide finish to articulate the contrast of the details on the image. The aluminum plaques will have a hand rubbed blackened finish. Paint and sand texture are applied to the background of the plaque and completed with a clear coat to protect the finish.
